OXFORD — A draft of the 2011-12 town budget shows 0.81 percent increase, less than half the 1.66 percent cap selectmen asked for at a February meeting.
Selectmen on Thursday voted to submit the proposal to the Budget Committee for review.
If approved, the $3.18 million spending plan would be about $25,500 higher than the 2010-11 budget.
A 2005 state law limits the yearly increase in town budgets based on local property growth and statewide income. The law limited Oxford’s 2012 increase to 1.66 percent.
Town Manager Michael Chammings said departments managed to keep their budgets tight, despite a rise in fuel and insurance costs. The police, highway and fire departments managed to keep increases under 2 percent.
The proposed increase for the administration budget is about $7,500, or 1.65 percent, which is in line with increases for the police, highway and recycling.
Chammings said in February that he anticipated an increase in administrative costs as the town hires legal representation in negotiating with casino developers Black Bear Entertainment.
