Tele-health: it didn’t mean as much a couple of years ago as it does now, after our COVID shut-downs. Do you have a story about how you benefitted from some tele-health experience last year? How did your internet strength hold up? Send us a story; our voices may be quite compelling to the statewide commission that is allocating significant money for broadband expansion in rural Maine. Here’s what two happy patients had to say: “Thanks to Tele-health, I was able to complete my Medicare Wellness Visit with my doctor without going to his office. I shared my vital signs and answered all those Medicare questions from the comfort of my home via ZOOM. He addressed my concerns without personal contact – great in a pandemic but good anytime. I wish we had fiber to the home to provide better internet access for Tele-health and other online activities.”
“I would normally have had to travel an hour to Auburn and an hour back for no more than a 15-minute easy check-in with my doctor. How wonderful it was to do it with just a Zoom from my home! When I was told that my next appointment would have to be in-person, I was really disappointed, but they’ve now relaxed their protocol so that next year’s appointment will again be through tele-health. With stronger internet, more people will be able to save on their mileage and time.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
