You can also call SeniorsPlus in Lewiston at 795-4010 and ask them if they have reputable, local, bonded, and insured companies on their community resources list. You must be cautious about having people in your home so getting word-of-mouth recommendations or tapping into resources from a community-based entity is key.

Also, depending on what Medicare coverage you have and what your needs are, you may be able to get some assistance through them if you have disabilities that are preventing you from doing necessary day-to-day tasks.

One last idea: a family member found a great cleaning professional on the website www.care.com. You sign up and request exactly what you need. There is a small fee for being a member but the company does the paperwork and background checks for you.

ANSWER: You can still buy them on Amazon. Some are preowned and refurbished and are backed by a 90-day guarantee. For instance, a Sony SLV-D100 model sells for $389. There are others that are less expensive and some that are much more expensive.

Walmart.com also has several refurbished models under $300. There are enough to choose from that you should be able to find what you’re looking for!
