RUMFORD — Joan G. “Nana Banana” Mullally, 74, a resident of the Muskie Building on Congress Street, formerly of Portland, died Monday, April 11, at Rumford Hospital following a long illness.
She was born in Portland, Sept. 28, 1936, a daughter of Peter J. and Lorena (Woods) Crepeau. Joan was educated in Portland school and New York schools. She lived and worked in Albany, N.Y., for many years and returned to Maine in 1996.
Joan loved doing crafts with canvas, doll making, playing cribbage, skat and beano. She was a volunteer with the Guiding Light and Community Concepts, and was on the welcoming committee at the Muskie Building, where she has resided for the past 12 years.
Joan and her very best friend, Bruce Harkness, could always be found together out and about in their wheelchairs around town or on the way to Marden’s or Walmart.
Surviving are two sons, Eugene McDermott of Hudson, Fla., and C. Richard McDermott and wife, Laura, of Waterville; two daughters, Mabel F. Merrill and husband, Peter of Mexico and Barbara S. Fregeau and husband, Richard, of Palm Bay, Fla.; a very special friend, Bruce Harkness of Rumford; 24 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Michael J. Mullally; and a son, Phillip E. McDermott.
