Recently, I noticed an announcement in the Sun Journal recognizing some local businessmen during an awards dinner (April 14). It was about the Good Shepherd Food-Bank and awarding the annual JoAnn Pike Humanitarian Award.

The reason for the award and to whom it is being given are very appropriate; however, the venue for the award ceremony seems like another slight to the Lewiston-Auburn community. The organization presenting the award, the business it was recognizing and the men representing the business are based here in Lewiston and Auburn. However, the award dinner is being held in Portland.

Surely, there is a local venue that could accommodate such an occasion which would allow more local people to attend and also showcase a local banquet facility. Shouldn’t the celebration be held in one of the local facilities that have invested in this area for special occasions such as this one?
