I think it’s funny how Central Maine Power and the Public Utilities Commission wait until the winter season to raise everyone’s rates.
Our seniors will be hurt the most with this rate increase. They only got a nearly 6% increase in their Social Security, which is quickly taken away by an increase in health costs. That is another thing: how do they figure an 83% increase in standard delivery rate is considered reasonable?
The fixed-income seniors can in no way afford this increase. The state can find all this money to help people during COVID, but nothing to help seniors with this increase.
I just pray it’s a mild winter, because there will be seniors in trouble out there.
It’s a sad day indeed when they have all this money to throw around, and seniors have empty pockets. They should be respected and protected in their waning years.
