MEXICO – Donald G. Dakin Sr., 81, passed away on Christmas Day, with his loving wife by his side.
He was a resident of Dixfield most of his life but resided in Mexico.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1940 in Farmington, son of Beatrice Hanson and Donald Bowers Dakin.
Don was an auto mechanic most of his life but worked as a sale manager at Bailey’s in Livermore as well. He retired due to health issues in the late ’80s .
He spent many years traveling with his former wife, (Jane). They covered 49 states in their RV.
He married Gail Hamel, June 30, 2012 who he loved very much. They enjoyed traveling on Don’s homemade trike he made and was well known for in the area. They were inseparable.
Don loved his additional family, Kirk and Tami Hamel, as his own, as well as all his grandchildren.
Don’s second home was in the garage, tinkering and getting in trouble lol.
He groomed trails for 42 years and was named Groomer of the Year in 2011. He was a member of the Poodunck Snowmobile Club,
Survivors include his loving wife, Gail Dakin of Mexico; son, Donald G. Dakin, Jr. and partner, Kayla Cook of Dixfield; stepchildren, Kirk Hamel and partner, Angela, and their son, Tyler Hamel of Mexico, Tami Hamel of Dixfield, brothers, Harry Dakin of Dixfield; Scott Hanson of Phoenix, Ariz., Kim Hanson of New Hampshire, sister, Lorie Wallace and husband Jim of Fl.  Special daughter-in-law Mary Dakin of Canton.  Grandchildren, Tia Robbins and husband, Derek, and children Raegan and Jaden of Dixfield, Jason Dakin and wife, Veronica, and children, Monique and Owen of Windham, Sarah Dakin and fiance, Travis Clark of Waterville, Heather Dakin and fiance Travis Ventimiglia and children Kylee, Lexi, Brynn, and Sylas of Jefferson. David Dakin, Jr. and Casey Morris and children, Jared and Colby of Hartford. Nicholas Lavallee and Jamie and children Lily, Orion and Perren of Magalloway.

Don was prededeased by his parents Beatrice Hanson and Donald Bowers Dakin, sisters, Gail Kopp, Vickie Mullens and his son David Dakin and his former wife Jane Dakin.

Don was an amazing man who was well known and loved by all who knew him. he will be greatly missed by all.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
