Bates College senior quarterback Brendan Costa is set to become the first player in program history to compete in the Dream Bowl, a postseason senior all-star game for small school football standouts.
Costa of Westport, Massachusetts, will be joined at the 10th annual Dream Bowl by Bates senior associate head coach and offensive coordinator Custavious Patterson. Patterson has served as a head coach in the Dream Bowl each of the past seven years.

The Dream Bowl is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. in Salem, Virginia. Costa is expected to play wide receiver for the Patriots, the team coached by Patterson, and may get some snaps at quarterback as well.
Costa received second team All-NESCAC honors after a senior season in which he set new Bates’ single-season records for total offense (2,063) and passing yards (1,680). He is the second Bates quarterback to receive All-NESCAC recognition since the awards began in 2000, following Trevor Smith, who was recognized in 2012.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
BATES 52, AMHERST 49: The Bobcats (10-3, 2-0 NESCAC) opened the game with a 19-10 run and held off a late surge to upend the third-ranked Mammoth (8-1, 1-1) in Lewiston.
Meghan Graff led Bates with 21 points, Mia Roy added 12 points and Brianna Gadaleta had 11.
Dani Valdez had 14 points to pace Amherst.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
AMHERST 63, BATES 58: Grant Robinson had 23 points and four assists to lead the Mammoth (10-3, 2-1) over the Bobcats (5-5, 0-2 NESCAC) in Clinton, New York.
Stephon Baxter made four 3-pointers and finished with 25 points for Bates. Jahmir Primer had 12 points, while Omar Sarr added seven points and 14 rebounds.
Garret Day scored 11 points for Amherst and Dan Schlakman put up 10.
MEN’S HOCKEY
UMASS-LOWELL 5, MAINE 3: The RiverHawks (12-3-3, 9-2-1 HE) scored three first-period goals and held on to beat the Black Bears (3-13-4, 1-9-2) in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup scored for Maine in the second period, and Nolan Renwick and Donovan Villeneuve-Houle each added goals in the third. Victor Ostman had 20 saves and Connor Androlewicz had six.
Andranik Armstrong-Kingkade led Lowell with two goals. Carl Berglund, Ryan Brushett and Ben Meehan all scored once. Owen Savory turned away 20 shots.
