FARMINGTON — The Nordica Trio will perform in Mt. Blue Regional School District schools on May 17 and 18 in a series of concerts sponsored by the Kingfield POPS.

The Nordica Trio includes musicians Graybert Beacham on violin and viola, Karen Beacham, clarinet, and Martin Perry, piano. Since the trio’s debut in 1994, they have performed numerous concerts for students across the state and have performed nationally and internationally.

The concert schedule includes a performance from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Academy Hill School and from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at Cushing School, both schools are located in Wilton. A third performance takes place from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Cape Cod Hill School in New Sharon.

The performances continue Wednesday, May 18, when they perform from 10:15 to 11:10 a.m. for the Mallett School at Nordica Auditorium on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington.

The community is invited to attend all of the concerts. Admission is free.

Earlier publicity materials included a different performance schedule with errors.

The trio members are all active as educators in the state of Maine. Graybert Beacham teaches violin in SAD 58 and at Colby College. Karen Beacham teaches in the Mt. Blue school district.

“It is most inspiring for students to see and hear their teachers perform at such a high professional level,” POPS spokesperson Vici Robinson said.

Both Graybert and Karen also perform with the Portland Symphony Orchestra in Maine. In 2008 the Beachams spent a month in West Bengal, India, teaching at the Gandhi Ashram School. They also played concerts at the Delhi School of Music and at the American Embassy.

Pianist Martin Perry has distinguished himself as an innovative interpreter of both solo and collaborative music. A graduate of the Juilliard School where he studied with Adele Marcus, he has toured the U.S. and abroad several times as a soloist, and orchestral appearances include the Moscow Philharmonic, Baltic Philharmonic, Boston Pops, Portland Symphony, Arkansas Symphony and Florida Philharmonic. A specialist in the music of 20th century modernists, his recent recordings of the Elliott Carter and Charles Ives piano sonatas will be released this summer.

The Nordica Trio concerts are presented by the Kingfield POPS and is funded by the David A. and Mildred H. Morse Foundation and Verso Paper.

The Western Mountain region will enjoy more great music at the annual Kingfield POPS concert on June 25 at the Kennedy Farm in Kingfield. All youths are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
