ANSON — A 32-year-old woman was killed Saturday afternoon when she lost control of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle she was riding and hit a guardrail on the River Road in Anson, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Annie Harris-Rowe of Anson had recently acquired the motorcycle and was traveling north behind her husband, who was on another motorcycle with a passenger, when the crash occurred at about 1 p.m., sheriff’s Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell said.

Harris-Rowe was not wearing a helmet when she was thrown from the motorcycle after hitting the guardrail, Mitchell said. It was not clear what caused Harris-Rowe to lose control of her motorcycle. The crash occurred at a bend in the road, where the posted speed limit is 40 mph.

The Anson-Madison-Starks Ambulance Service took Harris-Rowe to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, where she was pronounced dead, according to Mitchell.

Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Dyer, who is leading the investigation into Harris-Rowe’s death, was assisted at the scene by sheriff’s Sgt. Joseph Jackson. Anson firefighters also responded to the crash.
