DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you please tell me if your newspaper published in 1911? I am searching for obits of both grandparents, Joseph and Julia Kundrat, who died in 1911 in Lisbon Falls. I cannot find a paper for that town. Thank you very much. — Dotty Kasmann, [email protected]

ANSWER: The Sun Journal does indeed cover Lisbon Falls. The Sun Journal is the result of the 1980s merger of the Evening Journal and Daily Sun. Sun Spots is not sure how thoroughly either paper covered Lisbon Falls in 1911, but you can search them both online thanks to Google, which has archived the old issues.

To search the Daily Sun visit http://tinyurl.com/334ehgd; for the Evening Journal, http://tinyurl.com/2v2uu7x

You cannot print from this archive, however. For more details on this dilemma, read on.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am interested in the Sun Journal’s archived old articles. These articles cannot be downloaded, but is it possible to purchase them from the Sun Journal or Google? Many thanks. — Tom Rock, [email protected]

ANSWER: Sun Spots regrets to inform you that she knows of no easy way to get printed copies. The Sun Journal does not have copies of old newspapers available for sale, and you cannot print directly from the Google archive. In the April 21 column (http://tinyurl.com/3ufnme3), readers offered tips on workarounds to this problem, but they require a certain amount of technical skill and/or certain software.

If you are in the L-A area, you can print your articles off library microfiche. The Lewiston Public Library has most of years available. You can contact them by visiting their website, www.lplonline.org, or by calling 513-3004 to be sure they have the date you require before you visit them at 200 Lisbon St.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Many people came to the University of Southern Maine’s Franco-American Collection on Sunday, May 22, for our concert with Franco singer/songwriter Josee Vachon.

Although the singer was on hand to sell copies of her CDs, we did receive a number of inquiries regarding cassette tapes. While these were not available on the day, I wanted to let your readers know that a number of different French music cassettes (including some by Josee) can be bought from the USM bookstore.
