Pam Puiia’s letter (June 2) about the rock at Howard Pond in Hanover and her concern about tax money being spent about the rock is absolutely correct.
That rock is in the middle of the town road. The LaForests want it gone; the Planning Board wants it gone; the code enforcement officer wants it gone; and the road crew wants it out of the way. I plowed the driveway last winter and it was in the way of plowing.
The rock lovers don’t realize that the rock has already lost its charm and would look even more silly with a black top drive on both sides. They are letting nostalgia overrule common sense and decency. It is a battle the rock folks cannot win. I don’t believe there is a judge or a jury in the state of Maine that would ever rule for them.
The Hanover select board is fast becoming the laughing stock of Oxford County. Puiia is right; it is stupid for the town to spend thousands of dollars because of a rock in the middle of the road.
Hanover selectmen should show better judgment.
