HARTFORD — Voters will go to the polls Tuesday, June 14, to elect officers and reconvene Thursday, June 16, to act on the remaining warrant articles.
Selectman Jack Plumley is running unopposed for a three-year term, and Road Commissioner Jeremy Johnson is running unopposed for a two-year term.
Town Clerk Lianne Bedard said the tax rate will likely go from $15 per $1,000 of assessed property value to $16.40.
If all articles pass as recommended, the municipal budget will be $770,448, which is $70,000 more than approved last year.
Some of that increase is $20,000 for winter roads. Selectmen will request authorization to enter into a three-year contract for winter roads.
The Public Safety budget is up nearly $6,000, legal fees up $1,500 and administration up $8,000.
The animal control budget is up nearly $1,000 and Town Hall, Town Office and mowing accounts also increased.
There are amendments to the Comprehensive Plan Ordinance and the Shoreland Zone Ordinance to be acted on.
Selectmen and the Ordinance Committee will ask voters to enact a Beach Ordinance to regulate use of the town beach next to the Pine Shores subdivision. It intends to limit access by means of permits.
The purpose of the Administrative Ordinance is to provide guidance to public officials and the community. It includes, among other items, terms for recall, ethical standards and authorities of the selectmen.
The plumbing and septic permit fees will make the town in compliance with the State Plumbing Code. The ordinance will list fees, which double if work is started without a permit.
The Budget and Ordinance Committees will hold a hearing at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Town Hall.
