Joseph E. Richard

MEXICO – Joseph E. Richard, 85, of Mexico, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022 while visiting family.

He was born Jan. 31, 1937 in Rumford, the son of Antoine and Louise (Daigle) Richard.

Joe graduated from Rumford High School in 1955, then went on to join the United States Navy from 1955-1957. After the Navy, he spent most of his career at the Rumford Paper Mill, working in the research department and then as an electrician.

He married Doris Blanchard Sept. 5, 1959. They settled in Mexico to raise a family and enjoyed 62 years together until Doris’ passing Oct. 7, 2021.

Joe enjoyed camping, softball, pool, golf, walking their dogs, and playing cards/cribbage. He was the king of the cribbage board.

He is survived by three sons, Roger Richard and wife Paula, Gary Richard and wife Julie, and Scott Richard; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Richard and Frank Richard; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joe was predeceased by his wife; son, David Richard; brothers Alyre, Raymond, Ivan, Laurie, Alphonse, Edward, sisters Lorraine Parise and Marie Viger.

Joe was a devoted family man, cherished his wife, and was always there to help others. He was quick witted and kindhearted. He will be sadly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 p.m. Friday July 15 at Holy Savior Parish in Rumford. Committal will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.

Arrangements are with S.G. Thibault Remembrance Center, 250 Penobscot St. Rumford.
