COVID
As scientists have predicted, COVID-19 is still with us and constantly developing new variants, so it’s important to keep up with current wisdom and recommendations for dealing with the disease, especially for older adults and those with immunosuppressed systems. I bet you know someone who’s recently contracted the virus; maybe they’ve been lucky and had a mild case, which is generally true – but who wants to have to isolate even if they’re not really sick?
Scientific studies in the last few days suggest that the newest variant, Omicron BA.5, spreads more easily than earlier versions, tends to be less severe, and – perhaps most alarming – is more likely to evade existing immunizations. The best protection is still to be current on vaccinations and boosters and masking inside where there are many people. There will be news in the coming months of new vaccinations that are more protective of the newest variants. https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/5-things-to-know-omicron. The CDC recommends that you monitor your health regularly and test if you feel sick or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive. There are several kinds of tests: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/testing.html.
