David is a very handsome, 1-year-old tabby who would love a home of his own. He doesn’t show as well as the more outgoing kitties, so he keeps getting overlooked by adopters. Most people come to the shelter looking for a friendly, outgoing, cuddly cat. The majority don’t
naturally gravitate to the shy cats, but if they’re willing to be patient the odds are very good that they’ll be pleasantly surprised at the personality that comes to the surface. David has already shown the staff he’s familiar with that he is a sweet boy.
The vast majority of cats who are on the shy side genuinely enjoy the presence of people in calm, familiar settings, and will blossom in a home once they are comfortable with their people and surroundings. We hear the stories time and again, that once in a home and given the opportunity to adjust and trust at their own pace, the cats who have been shy in the shelter setting blossom into playful, loving companions. Although they may not know how to show it at first, the shy ones DO need people and the special bond that develops is rewarding for cat and human alike.
David has been at the shelter since February and does well with other cats. You can see David during our open hours in our cageless community room. He’ll be the one that’s not rushing up to you for attention. A quiet home would be best for him, and someone who is willing to let him get comfortable at his own pace. He so deserves a home away from the shelter. Do you have room in your heart?
Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills is a no-kill, non-profit shelter and adoption center for cats and dogs, and the holding area for stray dogs for 12 towns in Oxford County. The shelter is located at 9 Swallow Road in Paris, and is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. (Other days by appointment).
Responsible Pet Care operates a thrift shop called Pawsibilities. It is located at 132 Waterford Road in Norway and is open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations of clean, usable household items are accepted during shop hours.
