PORTLAND – Gene S. Mitchell, 80, of Otisfield, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Maine Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 15, 1942, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Parker) Mitchell. He attended Paris High School and graduated at the University of Maine with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Gene proudly served in the United States Army. He was a driver for Norway Laundry Company for over 20 years. He married Joyce Ahonen on Sept. 23, 1990, and had a wonderful marriage for over 30 years.

He enjoyed gardening, collecting stamps, reading, walking in the woods and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, recitals and concerts. He was a member of Deering Memorial Methodist Church.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, sons Paul and wife Brenda of Augusta, Randy and wife Michelle of Leeds and Christopher and wife Dawn of Sidney, seven grandchildren; Samuel, Savannah, Tricia, Abby, Brooke, Jessica and Lily, four great grandchildren; Levvy, Ava, Trae and Amira, sister Judy Knight and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, South Paris on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 2 p.m., with interment at Stuarts Corner Cemetery in Bolsters Mills.
