LEWISTON — Gloria Twitchell, our angel, began her final journey to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 11, at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion surrounded by loved ones and family.

She was born in Auburn, July 6, 1926, to Shirley A. Wing and Ruth Pike Wing. Gloria began her life in the Auburn area and then moved to the South Paris area, where she graduated from Paris High School in 1944. She married her high school sweetheart, Benjamin B. Twitchell II on May 26, 1944 in South Paris.

Gloria loved her family very dearly and would always be there to support them. One of her enjoyments in life was to bring the family together especially during the holidays. She loved her flower gardens, loved her previous home located in Town and Country Mobile Home Village as well as all the friends she made while living there. She also enjoyed her trips to the ocean with her daughter. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren.

Gloria was a member of the Eastern Star, Oxford Chapter No. 168 and filled several offices while a member. She was also a member of the Norway/Paris Lions Club for several years. Gloria worked for a time in the former Sears Retail Store in South Paris; office clerk for Kane’s Insurance Office; answered phones occasionally at Austin Associates in Norway; member of the South Paris Grange; Den Mother for Pack 130 Cub Scouts in South Paris and was a former member of the SAD 17 School Board.

Gloria was a member of the First Congregational Church in South Paris for many years and was a member of the Thalian Club and the Mother’s Club of the Church. She also attended the Universalist Church in later years, where one of her special moments was hearing her son, Terry Twitchell, sing.

She was cherished and respected by her family and many friends she made along the way. She will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to those who cared for her and her loved ones with great compassion at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston during these difficult times. Also, a special thank-you to two very special ladies, Laura Varney and Rikki Lukeski, who lovingly and patiently helped her maintain her independence while she was able to live in her home. Gloria loved them both very dearly.
