Kudos to Jim Wellehan on his letter to the editor calling on Auburn citizens to continue to act on the environmental issues affecting their city, lake and neighborhoods (“Protect Lake Auburn, preserve clean air, water,” Aug. 4).
Government can and should positively affect citizens’ quality of life. As proof of that, I cite the condition of the Androscoggin River prior to the passage of the Sen. Edmund Muskie-sponsored Clean Water Act, and the pleasant condition it is in today.
Auburn citizens should expect representation from the mayor and council that mirrors the citizens’ view of the way city life should be, not those of a mayor who seems in my opinion to be tone deaf to most citizens’ concerns.
