DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was a fourth-grade teacher at Montello School from 1983 to 1988. Then I moved to Maryland and continued teaching until my retirement in 2001.
Upon my retirement, I turned to writing, and now my third book, “This Business of Children,” under my pen name Chloe JonPaul, is about to be published.
In the introduction I mention some of my former Montello students, I would love to know if there any of my former students still living in the area. I would appreciate hearing from teachers as well. — Chloe Giampaolo, [email protected], 888-498-4443
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you tell me why NBC’s evening news on Tuesday, May 24, was identical to the broadcast on Monday? I like Brian Williams but cannot understand this. I think it has happened before. Is it their error or did someone on Channel 6 make the error? — No Name, Auburn
ANSWER: Sun Spots could not find any record of such a thing happening. She mentioned your query in the newsroom, and one of her colleagues pointed out that even if Channel 6 wanted to rerun the previous night’s broadcast, it would no longer be available to them via the satellite.
Sun Spots is struggling for an explanation. Do you have a DVR — a digital video recorder? Perhaps you recorded the news on it and then accidentally replayed the previous night’s broadcast instead of watching the new one? Or maybe you are just good at anticipating what the news will be!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Intergalactic Yurt Band will be doing a concert on Friday, June 24, at Danville Junction Grange at 7 p.m. Since this is a fundraiser to earn money for much-needed windows for our Grange hall, a $7 donation is suggested. There will be dessert available during intermission. Thank you for your wonderful column! — G. Ryder, Danville

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you to whomever left a note that said “thank you Veteran” and $10 on my car seat at the doctor’s office in Lewiston. Today’s ongoing wars are quite different from the Vietnam war (in which I served), when military personnel were told not to wear their uniforms when traveling for fear of being scoffed at by civilians. — Veteran, No Town
