WEST PARIS — The West Paris Downhill Derby held its second race of the season on Saturday, August 13. Pictured are the winners of the race Cameron Palmer – third place, Steven McCann – first place, and Tyce Sawyer – second place. There will be one more Downhill Derby race held on Saturday, September 10. Racing is free to any child ages 7-14. Registration is 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Race starts at 10:30 a.m. If your child does not have a derby car and would like to race, there are cars available for them to use on a first-come, first serve basis. A helmet and sneakers are required for racing. Want to race but you’re older than 14? The Downhill Derby would love to add the ‘Anything Goes’ races back into the schedule. If you have or would like to build a race car for the Anything Goes, feel free to bring it on race day. Anything Goes races will be held after the regular derby races have completed each race day. Anything Goes cars can be anything on wheels with steering and brakes, but no motor (no vehicles). In the past, Anything Goes cars have been built out of a canoe, a furnace, a BBQ grill, and a pool, just to name a few! The snack shack will be open on race day, serving hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks. Come to race or just come cheer on the kids and have lunch!

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
