Stoney the Moose arrives at Moosehead Farms in Bethel.

BETHEL — Moosehead Farms recently unveiled a 10.5-foot, chainsaw-carved moose in front of their craft cannabis shop on Sunday River Road.

Mike Everett, co-owner of Moosehead Farms drove more than 12 hours to Pennsylvania to pick up the statue last week. “Stoney,” as they are calling him, was unloaded off the trailer and put in place last Thursday.

“The moose turned heads all the way,” said Everett. “It was photo after photo on the highway and crowds every time we stopped.”

Everett tried a couple of Maine artists before he found Richard L. Hamilton at RLH Wood Sculptures, explaining that most told him a year and a half to two-and-a-half years before they could get to his project.

“We put a picture of a similar one on our Facebook page and a friend of my wife’s (who is from Pennsylvania) said she new someone.”

Next spring they plan to have a carving of a mother moose and two babies to go with it.
