LIVERMORE FALLS — The Winthrop Red Sox pounded out 20 hits, including a three-run home run by Dave Ricker Jr. and a solo shot off the bat of Brett Witherell, en route to a 15-9 victory over the Jay Orioles.

The Sox scored four times in the third inning off Orioles pitcher Chad Dumais with RBI hits from Bob Cochran, Sam Shain and Tavis Hasenfus to take a 5-0 lead. Neither team would score again until the seventh, when Ricker Jr. launched a hanging curve ball to the bank in left field.

Trailing 10-0, Jay scored four runs in its half of the seventh on a two-run double by Dumais, followed by a run scoring single by Randy Cote. Tim Kennison doubled in two runs in the ninth as Jay scored four more times but came up short.

Winthrop’s Eric Palleschi pitched six scoreless innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win. Led by Witherell’s four hits, Winthrop had seven multi-hit games. Ian McCarthy, Ricker Jr., Dave Ricker Sr., Hasenfus, Palleschi and Darin Burnham also repeated. Dumais and Kennison were repeat hitters for the Orioles.
