NORWAY – Barbara E. Johnson, 84, of Oxford passed away peacefully on Sept. 27, 2022. She was born on Jan. 31, 1938, in Lewiston to Stanley “Doc” and Sylvia Foster.

 

Barbara often spoke about how much she liked growing up in Oxford. After high school she attended Pierce Secretarial School in Boston. Barbara later worked at a local shoe shop before she found her true calling, working for the Ricker Memorial Library in Poland, Maine. She loved her job at the library, making many lifelong friends over her 30-year career. Barbara enjoyed playing cards, listening to the “Eagles” and had a special love for animals. In recent years she resided at the Norway Center for Health and Rehabilitation, where she enjoyed spending time with the staff and residents. Barbara was dearly loved by her family and all who knew her.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Vanessa Barnard, granddaughters Jenn Durant, Darcey Barnard, and Amy Barnard, great-grandchildren Lauren Durant and Brandon Durant, Sister-in-law Judi Foster, niece Tanya (John) Lowell, great nephew Thomas Lowell, Aunt Lahja Dibello and many cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her infant daughter Kimberly Ann, and her brother Norman Foster.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 PM with Rev. Don Mayberry speaking at 7:00 PM at the Oxford Hills Funeral Home located at 1037 Main Street in Oxford. The Family would like to thank the staff of Norway Rehab for all the love and support they gave Barbara over the last few years, and Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice for the care she received in her final days.
