100 years ago, 1911

Tacoma Lakes were swept by a cyclone Tuesday afternoon. Trees were uprooted, boats were torn from their moorings and considerable damage was done about the shores. Two of the large pines in front of Tacoma Inn were blown across the trolley wire, breaking it down and causing much excitement among the hundreds who were spending the Fourth at this beautiful resort.

50 years ago, 1961

R. I. Mitchell Inc. of Auburn has been presented an award by the Automotive Service Industries Association, the nationwide organization of automotive parts and equipment distributors. The award, made to president Horace T. Moody Sr. and treasurer and founder R. I. Mitchell, calls attention to the firm’s 37 years of “exemplary and enduring service” to the people of the area. The association has about 1,000 member firms.

25 years ago, 1986

LIVERMORE FALLS — Officer Larry G. White of the Livermore Falls Police Department graduated from the 53rd Municipal/County Basic Police of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in ceremonies in Waterville on June 27.

While in the 12-week Municipal/County Basic Police School, White received training in 72 different units of law enforcement instruction.

White was appointed to the Livermore Falls Police Department in January 1985.
