RUMFORD — Fireworks are back in the River Valley. And in a big way.
Monday night’s Fourth of July fireworks display at Hosmer Field will be done by the same pyrotechnic display company that has presented the Boston Fourth of July fireworks and, for the past six years, the National Mall fireworks extravaganza in Washington, D.C.
Atlas Pyro Vision Productions, Rumford’s fireworks provider Monday night, is one of the largest pyrotechnic display companies in North America. Atlas shops the world to purchase fireworks for its shows.
The company, founded in 1950 and based in Jaffrey, N.H., will be performing more than 85 separate fireworks displays this Fourth of July, according to Matt Shea, vice president.
“You’ll have a very good show in Rumford,” Shea said. “Jim Bennett, an Atlas technician from Bethel, will be running the show along with 4 or 5 assistants.
“The Rumford fireworks display will feature 120 different effects electronically fired from five different providers.” Shea said.
“There will be over 2,200 shells fired during the 23-minute display,” he said.
The Rumford fireworks show will feature some of the most popular pyrotechnic effects, according to Shea, including the gold willows, scattering shells, popping brocades, go-getters, serpents and of course the deafening sonic salutes.
“Personally, I think the best vantage spot to watch fireworks is about 600 to 700 feet from their staging area, where you can get the best perspective,” Shea said.
The Rumford Fireworks setup team will arrive on Monday to set up their staging area on the north end of the Hosmer Athletic Field Complex.
There will be a 400-foot area cordoned off between the fireworks staging area and the public viewing fields.
The Fourth of July festivities include live music, food, kids activities, a duck race, Scot Grassette’s Walk of Danger and much more, beginning when the Hosmer Field gates open at 4 p.m.
The fireworks will begin around 9:15 p.m. following a moment of silence and the national anthem.
