
Charles “Bud” Walton
LEWISTON – Charles “Bud” Walton, 78, passed away from complications due to congestive heart failure at CMMC on Nov. 12, 2022.
He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 23, 1943, to Herman and Phylis Walton.
Charlie attended Edward Little High School and received an associate degree in criminal justice at the University of Maine in Augusta, He served in U.S. Air Force for eight years and was a proud Vietnam veteran. After serving, he joined the Lewiston Police Department. He retired as a Detective Sergeant in 1991 after 22 years of dedicated service. He owned O’Sheil’s Irish Pub in Lewiston with his wife, Sheila who he married on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1984, at St. Patrick’s Chapel. He also was employed as a private investigator at Central Maine Power as head of security, and as a civilian employee at the Lewiston Police Department for several years.
Charlie enjoyed trips to Aruba with Sheila every year to celebrate their Anniversary. He loved to cook, entertain his friends, and family as well as gamble at casinos. Charlie had a soft spot for cars (and the occasional motorcycle). Friends and family were not the slightest bit surprised when he would pull into a driveway with a new vehicle that he wasn’t driving the week before. During the course of his life, Charlie managed to perfect his French fries, his tremendous stuffing, his duty (both to country and community) and his numerous roles of father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and husband.
He was predeceased by his parents, Phylis and Herman Walton, his wife of 31 years, Sheila Walton, his sister, Sylvia Crafts, his brother in law Paul Crafts, and his nephew Brandon Crafts. He is survived by his sister Meredith Michaelis and partner Paul Kelly, two daughters, Stacy Rapoport and her partner Christine Cunnean of Rhode Island and Heather Fortier and husband Ray of Connecticut, his granddaughters; Danika Wight and husband Ron, and Amanda Knight and husband Chris, his grandson Raymond Fortier, his great grandchildren, Brady, Bentley,and Alya Wight, Christopher Fortier, his nephews,Travis Crafts and his wife Kelly, Mike Michaelis and wife Jen, Jack Rioux and wife Lisa, his niece Angela Luettel and husband Chad, and his sister in law Colleen Rioux and husband Claude. He was especially loved by his great nieces and nephews William and Caitlin Michaelis, Heleana, Eva, Emma, and James Luettel and Payton, and Bryson Rioux. He is also survived by his travel companion and partner in crime, Lorraine Heikkinen,

Funeral services honoring Charlie’s life will be held 11 a.m., Monday November 21, at the funeral home followed by committal prayers and military honors at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel 980 Turner St., Auburn. Family and friends are invited to visit Sunday November 20, from 2-5 p.m., at the Pinette Dillingham and Lynch Funeral Home 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway Lewiston.
