James “Jay” White Jr.

RUMFORD – James “Jay” White Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022 at the home of his aunt and uncle Doreen and Roland Jordan of Auburn. Jay was born in Rumford on August 14, 1983, son of James White Sr. and Reta (Burgess) Purington.

Jay was educated in the Mountain Valley and Region 9 school systems. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, outdoor activities and later in life, wood carving. He was also the King of doing a 360, knee boarding behind the family boat.

Jay is survived by his father Jim and stepmother Ann White of Mexico, his mother Reta Purington and her companion Robert Bowman of Rumford; his children Jacob White of Rumford and Brooke White of Roxbury; sister Marie McCafferty and her husband Dave of Winthrop; nephews Jordan Parent, Colby Parent, Brayden McCafferty, niece Brylee Paterson; and several great nieces.

We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to his aunt Doreen and uncle Roland for helping Jay overcome his disease of addiction and medical condition.

There will be a short memorial service at Thibault’s Remembrance Center 250 Penobscot St. Rumford at 11 am, Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. followed with a celebration of life, at the Snowshoe club on Waldo Street in Rumford.
