Robert T. Mercier

THE VILLAGES, Fla. – Robert T. Mercier, 82, a resident of Lady Lake (The Villages) Florida, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the Villages Rehab Center, following a brief illness. His passing seemed sudden and unexpected to his loved ones, but they are grateful that he did not have to suffer a protracted illness and is now at peace.

Bob was born in Livermore Falls, Maine, the son of Henry A. Mercier and Jennie M. Mercier. Although he lived in Florida for several years toward the end of his life, Bob always considered himself a “Mainer” at heart and prior to his death it had been his hope to move back to Maine to be closer to his family and to have, what he described as, “one more Maine winter.” While the idea of anyone wanting another Maine winter puzzled many of his loved ones, they know Bob also enjoyed his time in Florida as well, from playing golf with his friends, to being the leader of his very entertaining bridge club.

After graduating from Livermore Falls High School in 1958, Bob attended MA College of Pharmacy in Boston but returned to Maine for the majority of his practice. Bob spent his professional life helping people – from the patients for whom he filled prescriptions and provided advice and support – to the opportunities he had to mentor and guide new pharmacists and pharmacy techs along the way, even after he had officially “retired”!

Bob loved music, golf, wood-working and his beloved Red Sox. When he wasn’t watching or listening to a Red Sox game, he could be found strumming his guitar and entertaining his children and grandchildren with such favorites as “Stewball” and “The Fox”. In addition, Bob was able to use his wood-working and carpentry skills while building a log cabin in Freeport, renovating a cottage on a lake in Oxford and making pieces of furniture for himself and his family.

Bob is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bonnie L. Mercier; His son Gary R. Mercier, wife Christine and sons Geoffrey and Andre Mercier of Saco, Maine; His daughter Jan Mercier of Randolph, MA; and his wife’s children: Janet Siddons and family of Bangor, Maine and Clinton Swett and family of Freeport, Maine. Bob is also survived by two brothers: Richard Mercier of Edgecomb, Maine and Bruce Mercier of Wayne, Maine.

Bob was predeceased by his father Henry in 1994; his mother Jennie in 2012; his brother Maurice in 2016 and his sister Elaine in 2021.

The family is planning a private celebration of life for Bob in the Spring.

Donations in Bob’s memory can be made to support the Red Sox Dana Farber/Jimmy Fund foundation at: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or via http://www.jimmyfund.org/gift.
