BELGRADE — A 16-year-old Oakland boy died late Saturday after being thrown from an ATV at the corner of Wings Mills and Manchester roads, according to officials.

Deputies from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office responded just before midnight to the area near 638 Manchester Road in Belgrade, where the boy was bleeding from his mouth, according to information from the Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses reported the boy, who was riding a 1995 Polaris ATV, had sped past two vehicles, before struggling to make a right turn onto Wings Mills Road. The witnesses told officials the boy was thrown from the ATV, which continued to speed forward without him.
The boy, whom officials were not identifying over the weekend, was not wearing a helmet, according to a statement issued by the Sheriff’s Office.
Lt. Chris Read of the Sheriff’s Office was not available Sunday to provide further details of the crash.
Several law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel responded to the crash, which remained under investigation Sunday.
