To the Editor:
Though my run for Maine State Representative for District 78 was unsuccessful (but – thank you, Bethel – my support was solid in my hometown), I would like to thank all area residents who gave me their vote.
I campaigned on a platform of collaboration and non-divisiveness, and I would also like to congratulate the winner Rachel Henderson for conducting a very respectful and non-contentious campaign.
Considering the broader election results, it’s clear that this is also the feeling of much of the national electorate, and I’m sure she will conduct herself in Augusta in the same respectful manner she campaigned. (I tried to remove all campaign signs within a few hours of the end of the election and apologize if there are any that were missed.)

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
