WINTHROP — The Winthrop Red Sox won a pair of Pine Tree League seniot baseball games last weekend.
Winthrop battled back to beat the Winslow Green Wave, 7-5.
The Wave scored three runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by Jesse LaCasse’s two-run double. Winthrop tied the game with two runs in the second inning and one in the third before taking the lead for good in the fourth on a two-run single by Dave Ricker Sr.
Sox pitcher Matt Richardson picked up the win. He retired the side in order in three of the final six innings. Ricker, Tavis Hasenfus and Eric Palleschi all repeated at the plate for Winthrop. Shane Kibler, Joel Fernald, Rick Doble and LaCasse paired up for the Wave.
The Red Sox also rolled over the Bethel Braves, 7-2.
Leading 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Sox (6-5) pulled away with four two-out runs, triggered by Bob Cochran’s RBI triple and RBI singles off the bats of Corey Gillespie and Matt McCarthy.
Eric Palleschi earned the win on the hill, hurling six innings and giving up his first earned run in 24 innings of work this season. Brett Witherell cleaned up the final three frames.
Winthrop repeat hitters on the day were McCarthy, Cochran, Gillespie and Dave Ricker Jr.
Rick Whitney pounded out a triple and two singles to lead the Braves (5-4).
