NORTH WATERBORO — Jon Peter Tufts of North Waterboro passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 13.

He was born in Biddeford in 1941. He was the first of three sons to Walter L. and Pauline R. Tufts. A good friend to many, Jon served proudly aboard the USS McMorris in the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet from 1959 to 1963.

An entrepreneur during his earlier career, Jon owned and/or operated restaurants and a community market and gas station. He spent more than 17 years working as a store manager for Marden’s in their Lewiston, Sanford, Portland and Biddeford locations. He was loved by his employees and all those that had the opportunity of getting to know him.

He was a member of the Saco-Biddeford community throughout his life, until re-locating to the hamlet of Waterboro, where he became a fixture and actively engaged in the community in which he loved. Living on Little Ossipee Lake, Jon became active in Waterboro’s planning, zoning and road commissions where he was a friend to the town he was proud to call home.

He is survived by his children, daughter, Jean E. of Portland, son, Jeffery J. and wife, Elizabeth, of Arlington, Texas, son, James P. and wife, Theodora, and grandchildren, Tana and Christos of Hudson, N.H.; brothers, David B. and wife, Cindy, of North Hampton, N.H., and Charles L. and wife, Karen, of Gray; nieces and nephews; as well as many extended family members of Little Ossipee Lake.

Jon was predeceased by his parents, Walter L. and Pauline R. of Biddeford.
