The 2023 Friends of Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge wall calendar is available to advance order.
All proceeds beyond the costs associated with the calendar will be used directly in the Friends’ mission to support the refuge’s preservation of land for migratory birds and local wildlife, according to a news release from Anne Post Poole with the Friends.
The Friends held a two-month long photo contest during September and October, and a jury selected 12 winning images, plus the cover photo, for the monthly pages of the 2023 calendar.
The organization supports the refuge in its mission to preserve land for migratory birds and local wildlife.
The refuge is located in York and Cumberland counties and consists of 11 divisions, totaling 5,600 acres, scattered throughout Kittery, York, Ogunquit, Wells, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Biddeford, Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
