BETHEL — That Miss Elsie M. Davis, the missing young organist of the Methodist Church, is alive and wandering around demented in the woods within a mile of her own home is the belief of the searchers tonight. A young woman whose description tallies with that of Miss Davis, was seen to come out of the woods on Paradise Hill, walk across Greenwood Road, wade a brook and disappear in the woods toward Mt. Abram.
50 years ago, 1961
Lewiston Patrolman Ernest R. Labrie was promoted to the rank of juvenile officer last night by the Police Commission and will officially begin his new duties on Friday.
He will fill the post left vacant last week when Detective-Juvenile Officer Jean L. Samson died.
Officer Labrie, an Air Force veteran, joined the department in June 1955. He has attended police courses at Maine State Police Academy and Northeastern University. He resides at 5 River St. with his wife, Jacqueline, and their daughter, Susan, 5.
25 years ago, 1986
The Maine Majestics, who took third place in last year’s National Modified Fast Pitch Tournament in Spokane, Wash., will play a pair of doubleheaders this weekend at Marcotte Park in Lewiston.
The Majestics will play at 6 and 8 tonight against A.J. Goldsmith’s of Rockland. At 10 a.m. and 13:30 p.m. on Sunday they will take on Hammond Lumber of Belgrade.
