PORTLAND — Harry Albert Rogers, 51, of Portland passed away peacefully Thursday, July 14, at Maine Medical Center. He was in the arms of his adoring wife and surrounded by his loving family.

Harry was born in Quantico, Va., Oct. 18, 1959, the son of Harry and Dorothy Rogers. Harry was the son of an enlisted Marine and attended schools in Virginia, North Carolina, and up to his home town of Portland. He graduated from Deering High School in 1977, and attended Portland Regional Vocational technical center machine tool classes.

He was always very curious, full of energy and determination. From a young age, he had a great love for life and it showed in everything he did. He loved to make people laugh and would go to any length to do so.

He worked in the food service industry for more than 30 years as a bartender and manager at numerous places including the Lakewood Inn, the Wonder Bar, Mangino’s of Falmouth and most recently Amato’s in South Portland. Harry met the love of his life at Mangino’s in Falmouth in 1999, and they were wed on Oct. 2, 2005. Harry could build anything he put his mind to and built many of the items needed for the wedding, including a wedding cake he constructed out of wood and decorated beautifully so he could be married on top of the wedding cake.

Harry loved spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, hiking, kayaking, and of course skiing and snowmobiling. He also love dogs and had a close bond with every dog he ever owned. His most recent faithful companion was Lynn-Lynn, a golden retriever who absolutely adored Harry. She would sit by the door every night with a toy, waiting for him to get home and take her exploring.

Harry had a very kind heart and would help anyone out anyway he could. He adored children and it really made him happy to spend time with and put smiles on his many nieces and nephews faces. Whether it was a Christmas or a Fourth of July Celebration at our house, Uncle Harry always had something fun in store for the kids. He especially enjoyed fireworks and could often be heard doing his favorite bird call to show his excitement!! Harry lived life to the fullest and gave it his all in everything he did. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always lightened a tense situation with a bit of laughter or silliness.
