Gary Wentzell of Mexico recalls fond childhood memories from the Smith Crossing neighborhood in Rumford when mill train crews would toss their read copies of the “Sun Journal” onto his family’s property in the morning and the evening train would do the same with the “Portland Press Herald.” At Christmas they would enclose candy in the papers.
