AUBURN – Joan E. Hoopes, 81, of Auburn, passed away Jan. 10, 2023 at Clover Manor of Dementia.

She was the daughter of Stephen and Gratienne Marcotte Sullivan. Joan graduated from Auburn schools and earned her Ph.D. in 1990 from New York University in Binghamton, N.Y. Joan was a professor at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Joseph W. Hoopes; and both parents.

Survivors include her brother, James Sullivan and wife Monique and niece Colleen Sullivan Landry, all of Auburn; her brother-in-law, Gary Hoopes and wife Kris and nephews of Pennsylvania.

The family would like to thank the staff of Clover Manor and Androscoggin Hospice for their vigilant care.
