BETHEL — Local Middle School Ladies take home some Nordic hardware at Black Mountain’s Jr. Sassi Memorial on January 28th. The first girl across the finish line was Mallory Raymond skiing for Gould Academy, Mallory had the second fastest time (10:18.7) in the field of almost 100 boys and girls from more than a dozen schools. Lillian Smith racing for Telstar brought home the prize syrup with her 2nd place finishing time of 12:11.2. Tess Smith racing for Telstar more than reached her goal of being in the top ten, placed 8th (14:33.8). Isla DeCato (15:33.6) and Osie Hedden (16:39.7) skiing for Telstar placed 17th and 21st respectively in the 3K classical race.
Telstar racer Reece Pierce crossed the finish line in 10th place with 12:43. Davon DeGruttola (15:24), rarely bothered by the cold, donned his hat but not his gloves to place 31st of 51 boys.
Sunday the 29th found Tess Smith and Isla DeCato back on the snow. Tess Smith (15:16) placed 2nd in Nonstop Nordic’s 3.3K classic race. Isla DeCato skied her way to 5th place with 16:08.
