RANGELEY — New England Celtic Arts will bring The Spinney Brothers, Nova Scotia’s top-rated bluegrass band, to Maine this month.
The cornerstone of the group’s repertoire is traditional, Southern-flavored bluegrass music. First-generation bluegrass legends have been an important musical influence, yet the band’s music is equally shaped by members’ personal lives and local heritage. By incorporating original material, the Spinney Brothers intertwine the past with the present.
Performances will be at Lakeside Theater in Rangeley on Tuesday Aug. 2, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage on Wednesday, Aug. 3, and at Unity College Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, Aug. 4.
Making up the Spinney Brothers are Allan Spinney, Rick Spinney, Gary Dalrymple and Darryl Hebb. Brothers Allan and Rick debuted their band in 1992, showcasing a tight brother duet vocal style.
The Spinneys are past IBMA Showcase Artists and started the 2011 season on the strength of their current CD “When The Golden Leaves Begin to Fall.” The Spinneys recently took home five awards at the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Awards Show and were nominated for a prestigious East Coast Music Award for Bluegrass Recording of the Year.
While on their 2011 tour the Spinneys will travel coast to coast in Canada, and in the States, from Maine to California.
Curtain is at 7 p.m. at Lakeside and Skye; 7:30 p.m. at Unity. There will be a preshow jam session one hour prior to curtain at Skye and Unity.
