CARTHAGE — A Canton man was injured Thursday afternoon when his snowmobile struck the side of a truck while attempting to cross Route 2 near Winter Street.
Jeffery Cavanaugh, 63, was taken to Rumford Hospital where he was being evaluated later Thursday, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said.
A deputy was called to the area of Route 2 and Winter Street about 2:25 p.m. and found Cavanaugh’s Arctic Cat machine had struck a GMC pickup truck driven by James Theriault, 72, of Rumford, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“Cavanaugh was riding with a second person who had crossed first, who once across waved Cavanaugh the ‘all clear’ to cross the road when he drove into the pickup,” the statement said.
Cavanaugh was transported to the hospital by MedCare ambulance. An East Dixfield Fire Department crew responded to the scene as well.
