Chicks with Sticks
The steel drum combo Chicks with Sticks will perform on Wednesday, Aug. 3, prior to the Auburn Community Concert Band’s weekly performance at Auburn’s Festival Plaza. Chicks with Sticks play island-style music influenced by Jimmy Buffet, Bob Marley and the Wailers, and other calypso favorites. Chicks, from left, front are Diane Mawhinney and Dee Kersey; back row: Jill Longstaff and Laurie Swart. Their music is interspersed with commentary about the history and lore of steel drums. The free performance will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the community band’s “Songs of Sensational Groups” concert, featuring hits by Journey, The Doors, Queen and other popular bands of the past several decades. Bring a lawn chair. If it rains, the concert will be moved to the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch at Great Falls Plaza.
