LEWISTON — Dorothy Sovak Livernois, 89, formerly of 9 Livernois Drive, Topsham, passed away Friday morning, July 29, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

She was born in Topsham on May 16, 1922, a daughter of the late Andrew and Susan Sovak, who had emigrated from Czechoslovakia. Dorothy lived in the same house where she was born and raised until the age of 82.

Dorothy was a 1939 graduate of Lisbon High School. She and her husband, Rochel “Russ” Livernois, co-founded the Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union, where she served as assistant treasurer until her retirement.

She was an expert mushroom picker and always knew where to find the “popinky” she needed for her Slovak mushroom soup. She was a gracious host and cook, well-known for her traditional Slovak Christmas dinner, walnut rolls, lobster cookouts and potato salad.

Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Veronica Days, of Hellertown, Pa., and Rochelle Spear and her husband, Stephen, of Tophsam. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Roger Bernier of Raritan, N.J., and his three sons, Rochelle Furhman and her husband,  Patrick, and their three daughters of Berkeley Heights, N.J., Christopher Bernier and his wife, Emily, of New Egypt, N.J., Stephen Spear of New York City, and David Spear of Chicago.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rochel; and her sister, Marjorie Hein of Hampton Bays, N.Y.
