AUBURN — Janet Mary McConville Garcia, born on May 31, 1919, in Dorchester, Mass., died peacefully at Hospice House, Aug. 1.

She attended St. Joseph’s in Newton, Mass., The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, N.Y., and graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. While there, she met her husband, Mario Garcia of Brooklyn, N.Y. Janet and Mario married Feb. 14, 1942. After his World War II military service, they established their home in Scarsdale, N.Y., where they raised three children.

After Mario retired from his family steamship business they moved to the family summer-home on Long Island, N.Y., where they welcomed children, grandchildren and friends for many happy years.

In 1986, Janet and Mario moved to Windham to be near family in Sweden and Auburn. After 57 years of marriage, Mario died in 1999. Janet had been happily living at Schooner Estates in Auburn since 2004. Janet received much appreciated care in her final days.

She is survived by her brother, Donald F. McConville of New York, and Sweden; her sister-in-law, Eleanor McConville of Bloomfield, Mich.; her son, Peter and daughter-in-law, Pat Garcia, of Auburn; her daughter, Linda and her husband, William Marion, of Wooster, Ohio, and Sweden; her son, Stephen, his wife, Mary and their children, Elizabeth, Timothy, Margaret and Kathleen Garcia of Cranford, N.J.; grandson, Adam, his wife, Laura and their daughters, Natalie and Katharine Garcia of Lewiston; grandson, Matthew and his wife, Monica Garcia, of Edgewater, Md.; grandson, Joey Wing and his wife, Kassie, of Fort Drum, N.Y.; grandson, Jonathan, his wife, Lita and their sons, Christian and Andrew Marion of Mooresville, Ind,; granddaughter, Katherine Marion and her partner, Nicole Brown and their sons, Zachary and Theodore Marion-Brown of Malden, Mass.; granddaughter, Susan, her husband, Eric and their children, Benjamin and Anabelle Wenzel of Salem, Conn.

Janet was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary McConville of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Daytona Beach, Fla.; her brother, Joseph McConville of Sarasota, Fla.; and her husband, Mario.

Her family wishes to thank the staff and Janet’s faithful companions at Schooner Estates, hospitalists and staff at Central Maine Medical Center and the physicians and staff of Hospice House.
