Sumner Barbarick
AUBURN – Sumner Barbarick was born in Waltham, Mass., on March 14, 1945, to Edith Ross Barbarick and Grover Barbarick. He graduated from Waltham High School in 1963 and then attended both Boston University and Tufts Dental School. During his time at BU, he met his future wife, Helen Karelas. Upon graduation, Sumner and Helen married. Sumner then joined the USAF and achieved the rank of Captain and left the Air Force in 1973. After his service, they moved to Maine and started their dental practice in Lewiston, where they remained for their entire career until 2016.
Sumner was a father to his two children, Jarret and Anne and was a great dad who always put his children first. He was always their #1 fan whether it be at baseball, basketball or dressage.
Sumner loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and sea-doing. He also enjoyed playing in both a softball and hockey league into his later years.
Sumner will be remembered by his infectious laugh, great smile and wonderful sense of humor. He was a very proud and strong man who will be missed by many.
He leaves behind his wife, Helen Barbarick, daughter, Anne and her husband Richard Franks of Derry, N.H. Also, his son, Jarret and wife, Joyce Teator along with their three children Elizabeth, Catherine and Victoria of Georgetown, Mass.
The family invites you to a Celebration of Life on Sunday March 12, from 1-4 p.m., at The Fortin Group Funeral Home, 217 Turner St., AUBURN. A Committal Service will take place in the spring.
