JAY — A Farmington man was arrested Tuesday after police received information he bought a pound of marijuana and was traveling back through Jay from Lewiston, Jay police Detective Richard Caton IV said Wednesday.
Caton and officer Nicholas Gulliver were watching for the Jeep and stopped it on Main Street near the Jay Plaza at about 1:45 p.m., Caton said.
Caton interviewed Jerry Sweetser, 52, at the police station and arrested him on a felony charge of unlawfully trafficking in schedule drugs, he said.
Sweetser was cooperative when police stopped him and handed the pound of marijuana over to the officers, Caton said.
The street value of the marijuana is $1,700, he said.
Sweetser was taken to the Franklin County jail in Farmington. He posted $200 cash bail Tuesday and was released, a corrections officer said Wednesday.
Sweetser is scheduled to appear on Sept. 23 in the Franklin County Superior Court.
