Rev. Albert G. Roux

LEWISTON – Rev. Albert G. Roux, 85, left the embrace of his sister Yvonne and extended family on March 9, 2023, and entered into the eternal embrace of Our Lord and Blessed Mother.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 9, 1937, the son of George and Regina (Gauthier) Roux and was educated in Lewiston schools prior to attending college at St. Hyacinth Seminary and receiving his priestly formation at St. Paul Seminary in Ottawa, Canada.

He was ordained to priestly ministry in 1966 and would go on to serve the Catholic faithful in Yarmouth, Sanford, Auburn, Biddeford, Lewiston, Augusta, St. Francis (with Allagash), St. John, Limestone, and Madawaska (St. David).

Fr. Roux’s deep devotion to the Blessed Mother would lead him to being appointed as the National Director for The Marian Movement of Priests (MMP) in 1977. Fr. Roux would travel around the United States, spreading devotion to the Blessed Mother through the MMP, whose world-wide priestly and lay members number in the millions, including people from every continent.

Following his retirement, Fr. Roux was a Spiritual Assistant for the St. Francis of Assisi Secular Franciscan Fraternity in Lewiston.

Fr. Roux is survived by sisters Jeanne Vaillancourt, Yvonne Roux, OMMI, Florence Boulet, and Lucille Tremblay; his nephew, Rev. John Langlois, OP, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Reginald (Leo), and Paul, and his sisters Georgette Courchesne, Rita Galipeau, Monique Langlois, and Doris Roux.

The family would like to thank the many relatives, friends, and Androscoggin Healthcare and Hospice, who assisted in Fr. Roux’s care.

Reception of the Body and Office of the Dead for Fr. Roux will take place at Holy Family Church Friday March 17 at 4 p.m., followed by public visitation until 6 p.m.

Visitation Holy Family Church Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Committal Prayers to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
