NORWAY — Caroline E. Hammond, 86, lifelong resident of South Paris passed away on Thursday, Aug. 4, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Paris, July 16, 1925, the daughter of Charles Henry and Pauline Estella Hammond. She graduated from Paris High School in 1942, and had been the deputy treasurer for the County of Oxford for many years.

She had been a member of the First Congregational Church in South Paris since 1942, serving as president and secretary of the Ladies Circle. In May 1990, she was honored for 50 years of service as the Sunday school secretary, a position she held until the end of 2007.

She was also a member of Cooperative Extension Service in South Paris, evening sessions, serving as president and secretary over the years, a member of the Oxford County Extension, serving as secretary and the Paris Alumni Association, serving as assistant secretary. In 1998, she was named Alumna of the Year, Paris High Alumni Association.

She is survived by her sisters, Louise H. Bailey of New London, N.H., Barbara H. Roy of South Paris and Mildred H. Black of Standish; and several nieces and nephews.
