AUBURN — NAPA Auto Parts remained in first place in Auburn Rec Players Lower Division softball after two strong performances in their most recent battles.
In the first affair, Napa took down Bedard Pharmacy, 15-8, at Lakeview Field. NAPA gave up three runs in the top of the first. After going 0-for-3 in the bottom of the inning, NAPA gave up another run in the top of the second before the bats exploded for 13 runs in the bottom of the frame.
NAPA then scored one more in the third inning and one in the fourth. Bedard battled for two runs in the third and two in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the second-inning onslaught.
Shon Collins, Tom Day, Clay Phillips and Kris Gilhooly all went 3-for-4. Collins had two runs scored with a triple, while Day scored three times with two home runs and three RBIs. Phillips also had three RBIs with a run scored and a triple, while Gilhooly added two RBI swith a run scored, a double and a triple. Kasey Clark and Terry Goguen each helped out going 2-for-3.
In the second game, NAPA took down fourth-place Taylor Brook Dental, 14-9, under the lights at Pettingill Park.
NAPA scored two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the fourth but entered the fifth inning down 5-4 after giving up three runs in the first and two in the fourth to the dentists.
The bats awoke in the bottom of the fifth, when NAPA (11-1) scored six runs. NAPA added four more in the sixth to jump out to a commanding lead. Taylor Brook went down fighting, scoring four runs with two outs in the top of the seventh frame to finish the game.
Anthony Clark and Andy Ouellette each went 3-for-3 for NAPA. Clark had three runs scored with two doubles and three RBIs, while Ouellette had a run scored. Kevin Pontbriand, Shon Collins, Peter Boyd, Clay Phillips, Demetrius Starks and Terry Goguen all chipped in with 2-for-3 performances.
