Albert H. Vye Jr.

AUBURN – Albert H. Vye Jr., 86, of Sidney, died Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn from complications of a recent illness.

He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 25, 1936, the only child of Albert Vye and Blanche (LaBrie).

Albert graduated from Natick High School in Natick, Mass., class of 1955. He served in the USAF from 1955 to 1959. After his military service, Al worked as a machinist for General Electric in Massachusetts and then moved back to Maine and worked for Bath Iron Works until his retirement.

Throughout Al’s life he had a passion for fishing. Al was an avid fly fisherman and knew all the best fishing spots for trout and salmon all over the state, the best times of the year to fish various lakes and streams and the best lures or flies to use. Al introduced many friends and family to the infamous Grand Lake Stream area for salmon fishing and was the longest running visitor to Grand Lake Stream Camps run by Nancy and Gary Betz, renting a cabin every Memorial Day weekend for over 50 years.

Al was a lover of food, especially bakery sweets, and his favorite businesses he frequented and especially loved the Italian Bakery for their Neopolitans.

Al enjoyed a serious game of Cribbage and he will be sorely missed at family gatherings for his lively game playing and great story telling.
